A long time ago, when I started using emojis in my texts, I was testing the waters in online dating. I was on Tinder—this is what I’m trying to get at. And I noticed the guys who liked me would throw in an emoji here and there. I didn’t pay much attention to it, but after some time, I realized that there were some specific emojis guys use when they like you.

I wasn’t introduced to emojis until I was in the early-ish twenties *this makes me feel old*. Before that, I’d make smiley or winky faces with semi-colons and brackets. I like to think of myself as the OG of emojis. But, of course, emojis have come a long way and now are extremely diverse.

It’s nice to be able to be more expressive over a text message. But, there are also other purposes for emojis.
