What is Simping? A Guide to the “Suckas Who Idolize Mediocre P*ssy”
You’ve probably heard the word ‘simp’ floating around the internet, but what is simping exactly? Well, it’s not actually as new as you thought.
Is it just me, or is the internet an exhausting place to be on? Every day there’s a new meme that’s gone viral, a new phrase or term we need to know. On the one hand, it sure keeps things interesting. On the other hand, I can’t keep up with it all! I mean, what is simping or a fuccboi?!
If you’re addicted to social media *is that even a question anymore?*, then you’ve scrolled past memes like ‘simp Nation’ or ‘CEO of simping.’ I know you’re probably wondering what this new word means, but before you get ahead of yourself, you should know it’s actually not that new.
We like to think this is a newly invented word, but in reality, ‘simp’ is an actual old word and an even older concept. People are calling each other simps here and there; they’re throwing this word around like it’s spaghetti. But what does it actually mean? What is a simp? Better yet, what is simping?

If you’re as lost as most people are about this, it’s time to know the basics of what a simp is and if you’re simping or not. Sigh. I miss proper English sometimes. I really do.
What is simping?
It’s time to get to the bottom of what is simping.
#1 What is a simp? Before we dive any deeper into things, we need to know what a simp even is. How can you be simping if you don’t know you’re a simp? This word has been around since 2005 if you can believe it. And originally was defined as “a guy who tags along with hot girls because he thinks it will get him laid.” It’s an acronym for “Suckas Who Idolize Mediocre P*ssy.” Don’t look at me; I didn’t come up with it. [Read: 25 most unmanly and manly things a guy can do from a woman’s perspective]
#2 Today’s ‘simp’ definition. As you probably assume, today’s definition has changed a bit. Now, the definition means *thanks, Urban Dictionary*, “someone who does way too much for the person they like.” But there are some “red flags” that help further define who a simp actually is.
#3 The “red flags”of a simp. If you’re simping, then you need to be a simp first. So, what makes a simp a simp? Well, apparently, a simp does the following: putting too much value on a woman for no reason, putting a woman first, making yourself subservient to a woman in hopes of winning them without the woman doing anything, and being chivalrous only to have sex. [Read: Here’s how you can be masculine without being a jerk]
#4 Is simping bad? So, here’s the deal, there are some things in the definition I strongly disagree with. Treating a woman with respect isn’t something that should be frowned up. Neither is putting your relationship first. However, no one, regardless of gender, should treat you as a doormat. Nor should you allow them to just in hopes of them having sex with you. [Read: How to stop being a doormat and feel in control of your life again]
#5 It comes down to self-esteem. Being called a simp isn’t doing anyone any good. If someone is allowing other people to walk all over them, for example, this has to do with self-esteem and confidence. Labeling them a simp will not help them develop the self-esteem and confidence they need to enter healthy relationships.
#6 Don’t play the “nice guy”card. If you’re purposely trying to play the “nice guy” act in hopes it’ll get you laid; you can stop. Just because you do something nice doesn’t mean anyone owes you anything. You choose to do nice things because you want to, not because you’re expecting something out of it. [Read: The nice guy syndrome and why you bore women]
#7 When did this word catch onto the mainstream? Well, you’ll be surprised when it began to gain popularity. It wasn’t until 2019, where it was primarily used in the subreddit group/r/MGTOW (Men Going Their Own Way) – which is a misogynistic male supremacist group. Yup! That’s right. So, this ideology isn’t coming from a place of self-esteem and security.
#8 The definition of ‘simping’ is all over the place. Listen, I gave you the general definition, but people are taking it to extremes. Some guys have said that playing the girl’s favorite song on her birthday when you’re not dating her makes you a simp. Like… what? How does that even make sense? So, you can’t do a nice gesture if you’re not dating her? She has to date to you receive respect?
#9 How can you combat ‘simping’? Does opening a door for a woman make you feel good? Open it. Do you like to treat your partner to dinner on occasion? That’s fine. Listen, you should do what feels good for you. But, do not do these things with the hopes of receiving sex. Be genuine in your actions. If not, it won’t get you anywhere. [Read: Why the typical nice guy is never really such a nice guy]
#10 Don’t become a fuccboi. How do I say this nicely… don’t become a fuccboi. The people who are religiously following the definition of a simp and treating women like sex objects aren’t having a good time in their life.
You don’t need to join them. Yes, you don’t need to let someone walk all over you, that’s correct. But you also cannot expect sex as a response for every little gesture you do. Get over yourself. No one owes you anything. [Read: What is a fuccboi? The 8 signs that tell you who they are]
#11 Your actions are on you. Just remember this. If you choose to do something nice for someone, that’s your choice. No one forced you to do anything. If you want to respect another human being and do something out of kindness, then do it. But don’t expect to receive anything, because that person doesn’t owe you anything. It’s time to grow up.

Now you can finally sleep at night knowing what is simping. Or maybe you won’t be able to sleep as now you think you’re one of them.
