How to Be Feminine and Reveal the Softer Girly Personality in You

For some, learning how to be feminine comes naturally. And for others, not so much. If you want to reconnect with your feminine side, you’ll need some help.

I was a tomboy growing up. And I am still one today. There’s something about wearing a pair of sweatpants with my hair tied up that brings me true joy. If you know the feeling, then you’re probably a tomboy too. This isn’t a bad thing, even though people like to think it is. But learning how to be feminine and bringing out that softer side isn’t bad either.

Part of me is more masculine, but another part of me is scared to be feminine. Back when I was a teenager, I considered femininity a weakness. All those little sayings, you throw like a girl or stop being a pussy, they get to you over time. So, you toughen up and become like “one of the guys.”

Being tough isn’t a bad thing either, but we all have a feminine side—even men. [Read: How to tap into the powerhouse of divine feminine energy]

How to be feminine

Are you wanting to learn how to be feminine? If so, that’s great. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties, where I started to want to be more feminine. The problem was I had no idea what to do. Putting on make-up or eating with a fork and knife was almost foreign to me. Okay, I’m starting to make myself sound like Tarzan. I wasn’t that bad, but you know what I mean.

And becoming feminine wasn’t easy for me. It’s still not easy for me. But if you’re here, you want to put in the effort and change. Good for you. I’m here to help you out and put you on the right path to reconnecting with your feminine side. Let’s bring that softer side out.

#1 Free your mind. You probably didn’t think this was going to be a step, but it is. If you want to reconnect with your feminine side and want to know how to be feminine, you need to free your mind. Being feminine is about being free. Stop focusing on how you’re not feminine enough or what femininity is to everyone else. [Read: 12 easy steps to a dramatic life makeover]

#2 Become more vulnerable. We always assume vulnerability is being weak, but it’s not. Being vulnerable is about opening yourself up. If you’re always acting tough, your guard is constantly up. You’ll never be able to let people into your life. Bring that wall down and reconnect with yourself. [Read: How to open up by being vulnerable and welcoming life in]

#3 Receive compliments and help. Having someone hold a door open for you isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It doesn’t mean you’re weak; it shows respect and politeness. Instead of responding rudely, accept the help and kind gesture. If someone compliments you, accept the compliment by saying, “thank you.”

#4 Practice self-care. This doesn’t mean you need to wax your whole body and get your nails done. Remember, the physical appearance is only a small fraction of what being feminine means. Instead, practice self-care. Do things for yourself that make you happy. If you enjoy reading a book while taking a bath, do that. If you like yoga or going for walks, do those activities.

#5 You don’t need to layer on make-up. Many people believe femininity is about make-up. It’s not. Sure, you can wear make-up and look more feminine, but femininity comes from within. Whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. If applying Chapstick is a big step for you, stick to that. You don’t need to pile make-up on your face. #6 Don’t be afraid to try new things. Being feminine isn’t about waiting at home for your partner with dinner ready on the table. That doesn’t make you feminine. If you want to reconnect with this side of you, try new things. If you’re more sporty, try something that’s completely opposite. Try painting or writing; explore your emotional side.

#7 Explore different clothes. For me, I never wore high heels. When I first put them on, I walked like a horse. But, when I wore them, I felt sexy and confident. I don’t wear them all the time, but I tried something new and liked it. Don’t be afraid to try new styles out; you may find something that you like. #8 Get over the idea of competition. Women are always pinned against each other, but that’s not going to help you reconnect with your feminine side. If you want to become more feminine, focus the attention on yourself, and don’t compete against other women. This isn’t a competition.

#9 Tone down the swearing. I talk like a sailor. You can imagine how hard it is for me to write an article without swearing. But if you want to be more feminine, you need to clean up your language. This isn’t even about being feminine; it’s about looking mature and classy. [Read: 10 quickest steps to be a lot more elegant and graceful]

#10 Don’t gossip. Becoming feminine isn’t about making yourself feel good by pushing other people down. Being feminine is about working on yourself. You don’t need to judge or gossip about other women. Remember, this is about you, not them.

#11 Care about things you care about. I know that sounds a little confusing, but I’ll explain. If you want to be feminine, drop the whole aggressive or indifferent act. It’s okay to show you care about things that mean something to you. It’s okay to show your emotions. This doesn’t mean you’re weak or broke.  [Read: How to build self-confidence – 16 ways to realize you’re worth it]

#12 Let go. This is an important step you need to take. If you want to truly become feminine, let go of other people’s expectations and opinions. Live your life and free yourself from judgment. Once you let go and accept who you are, you’ll be able to connect with your feminine side and show your femininity.
